SELF CARE & THRIVING ON ALL LEVELS

By: Lauren West
Owner of Lauren West Coaching

Self-care is so hot right now. It’s a buzz word and a trending topic in the news, conversation, articles, and culture at large. Self-care is having her moment, as she should. Our well-being, our ability to feel good, sustain high levels of energy and positivity is essential for designing a life and business that you truly love.

Don’t get me wrong. Life and business won’t always feel like sunshine and butterflies, but having a rock solid relationship with yourself and being able to bounce back quickly will greatly influence your success.

I define self-care as a holistic lifestyle that empowers and inspires you to love yourself on all levels - physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Is this getting too woo-woo for you? Stay with me. This isn’t all feely. I’m also going to give you practical action steps!

When you care for yourself physically, you’ll eat nourishing foods in healthy portion sizes that feel right to you. You’ll binge less, crave less, and be able to clear emotional weight and patterns that don’t serve your highest and best. Do you find yourself in a food coma when you start getting down on yourself, when things don’t look like they’re working out, when you’re feeling particularly stressed, anxious, or depressed? Are you eating those feelings instead of feeling them, releasing them, and moving forward?

Taking care of yourself emotionally means that you’re your bestie. You forgive yourself quickly, you heal old fears and self-limiting beliefs through journaling, meditation, asking for help, and investing in experiences that foster your growth leaving you feel inspired and empowered to take action. Do you beat yourself up for making mistakes? Are you holding on to old wounds that are keeping you stuck? Are you constantly chipping away at your self-esteem so you don’t feel worthy of success or the things that you actually desire?

EMOTIONAL:

SPIRITUAL:

Creating a spiritual practice or rituals that feel good to you and jive with your belief system is also essential. Having faith in a greater benevolent energy or force beyond our comprehension of knowing may seem intimidating at first or to woo woo, but it’s true. The Universe/God/Force/Source loves you unconditionally and wants to see you shine brightly and fry freely.

This belief seems to contradict the essence of America’s values and work dominated culture that leaves little room for rest and play (which are essential to long term success and fulfillment). We’ve been inculcated with the belief that work has to be hard, that we have to hustle endlessly, and that we have to work our way up. Have you heard these phrases: Hard work and sweat pave the way to success. You have to pull yourself up by your bootstraps. Hustle hard. No pain no gain.

While I believe that inspired action is a key component to showing up, getting out there, getting seen, and being heard to attract your tribe, I also believe that energy is equally as important. If you’re doing all of the things that you should but feel empty, tired, stressed, frustrated, then you’re priming yourself for burn out, my dear.

Knowing yourself is everything. Say it out loud: “Knowing yourself is everything”. When you know yourself, you know what you’re about, what you like, what feels good, what works for you. Allowing yourself to open up and feel, to be guided, and to honor your intuition is an often overlooked key component of success. Knowing yourself and caring for yourself and your business is so vital for long-term fulfillment and ROI.

Get your fave pen out and your gorgeous notebook. It’s time to get your inner landscape clean, clear, and under control.

Some questions to ask yourself to create a customized self-care based lifestyle:

⁃ Who am I when I feel my best?
 ⁃ What am I doing?
 ⁃ Where am I?
⁃ Who do I love spending time with, listening to, reading their content?
⁃ When do I feel most energized? What am I eating?
⁃ What do I do when shit hits the fan, and I feel like I’m about to lose it?
- What would my dream day, week, month, year look like? How much time do I take off? Where would I travel?

GIRL GET YOUR MIND RIGHT: ACTIONABLE VIBE MAINTENANCE TIPS & TRICKS

1.Take a walk. Reconnect with nature and source energy to feel like things are going to be okay even if you’re not feeling 100% feeling that now.

2. Take a shower and visualize all of that crappy energy being washed away down the drain.

3. Youtube: EFT Tapping. Brad Yates is a popular teacher. This technique will help reprogram your mindset by repeating positive affirmations as you tap on different meridian points to shift you out of a funky/the sky is falling place.

4. My favorite go to: Get your journal out. Write out all of the shit that’s running through your mind and accelerating your heart beat or burdening your vibe. What are the fears that are coming out? What are the self-limiting beliefs that are rearing their ugly heads? Ask yourself is this really true? What can I do to change this? How can I shift my mindset from victim to hero to take charge of the situation and feel empowered?

5. If you’re really stuck and you feel like you’re spinning your wheels, ask for guidance from the Universe/God/Force. Tell them that you are willing to see things from a new perspective/in a different way and that you are ready and willing to be led and guided.
You’re not in this alone. Your intuition/higher self is your GPS and the Universe wants just as badly for you to be on the smoothest path to joy as you do.

6. Gratitude. Start writing out “thank you” on loop. Seriously. Just write out “thank you. thank you. thank you. thank you…” until you feel like something is happening. For me, I feel tingly and lighter. Activating the energy of appreciation and gratitude is a fast pass to feeling better and getting your energy back up to an elevated level.
Love is a gateway drug to joy. Abraham Hicks* says that joy is the highest vibration. It’s the highest frequency to attract love, abundance, success, whatever the heck you want. Obviously, we want to be on that level all the time, right?

*Abraham Hicks is a group of non-physical entities that is channeled by Esther and Jerry Hicks. Sound strange? It is a bit, but it’s also super cool and very high vibe. I’m drinking the Abe Kool-Aid, give them a listen if you haven’t already. I feel like you’ll be hooked.

7. Vibe maintenance is more important than getting weekly manicures (unless your weekly manicure is directly linked to feelings of joy and self-worth… Then by all means, continue but also take care of your energy as well as your cuticles).

Now you see why vibe maintenance and taking care of your energy is so vital. Your energy is your most precious and potent resource. It’s the powerful life force that keeps you connected to the Universe and keeps your life and business flowing in beautiful ways. It also fuels your loving relationship with yourself and others - hello happy family and friends! However, it can be leaked and smudged by other people. Don’t get too freaked out though. You can always clear and protect your energy!

*You can ask the universe to protect your energy by saying, “What’s there’s is there’s. What’s mine is mine. Universe, please protect my energy and shield me from anything that diminishes it. Please release all energy that doesn’t serve my highest and best self.”

SELF-CARE IN BUSINESS

I don’t believe in doing everything by yourself. As an entrepreneur, we have tons of shit to do! Delegating tasks and hiring people who can help and support you where you need it also an important form of self care (whether it’s a designer, copywriter, or coach). Nobody wants to work with someone who is on the verge of a breakdown who’s about to pull her hair out. I know that cost and budget may be a limit, but there are tons of people who offer affordable services. You don’t have to hire a full-time team and break the bank. Alternatively, you can always manifest more money (this is a whole other topic for another time). I strongly, strongly believe that you are your best investment and that when you’re starting out, you need the support of a mentor or coach to help you launch and lift off. I practice what I preach and truly believe that it’s a vital element of self-care that helps you feel supported and increases your ROI.

If you don’t have a coach, someone who is a few steps ahead of you, someone that you connect with, admire, respect, and feel like you can go to with all of your questions and in times of need, then dang. Good luck. I can’t imagine where I’d be if I never asked for help. I don’t even want to imagine where or who I’d be if I hadn’t made that big (scary/up-leveling) investment in my first coach to help me shift my mindset and start my business (and quit my 9-5). Seeking out mentors, coaches, inspirational wisdom droppers is such a key component to growth, hope, and joy.

Like beautiful trees, we’re always growing. When we resist change and growth that we need to continue expanding and reaching new levels of joy, success, and giving, then we’re halting the natural flow of life. You’re worthy of all of your desires and success. You are capable of achieving it, and you are responsible for your results.

If you’re passionate and you have the desire in your heart to start a side hustle or build or expand your business, then this is your sign. You’ve gotta do it! That desire will never leave your heart of mind. Take care of yourself and follow your passions and listen to your heart’s wisdom. That is the ultimate form of self-care (to me) - to allow yourself the freedom to dream and do it. Allow yourself to go further, to try new things, and accept all of the goodness, abundance, love, and joy that is rightfully yours and that’s already on your way. Keep showing up. You got this! For real.
